Maize, also known as corn, is a cereal grain.The leafy stalk of the plant produces pollen inflorescences and separate ovuliferous inflorescences called ears that yield kernels or seeds, which are fruits. Maize has become a staple food in many parts of the world, with the total production of maize surpassing that of wheat or rice. The annual production of maize is about 7 million tons which is grown in every region of Turkey. Maize and cornmeal (ground dried maize) constitute a staple food in many regions of the world. It is also a major source of both grain feed and fodder for livestock. It is fed to the livestock in various ways. When it is used as a grain crop, the dried kernels are used as feed. Maize is also used for producing biofuel.
